Our Tradition The Scouting tradition is strong in Troop 649. Our emphasis is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law. We are especially proud of our continuing designation as a BSA Quality Troop. We have been chartered since 1995, and since then have worked with over 160 registered Scouts. From our inception through this coming Scouting year, perhaps as many as 46 of Troop 649 Scouts have attained the rank of Eagle - a remarkable record of achievement. Troop activity level has been substantial. In the last seven years, we have organized over 90 wilderness outings and summer camps and delivered more than 7,000 collective hours of community service. Our activity level and outdoor program provides the opportunity for Scouting achievement - achievement that provides the Scout a lifetime of memories and lasting value.
How did this all get accomplished? It begins and ends with enthusiastic Scouts. It also makes a big difference to have parents that share a common interest of delivering a quality program. Through instilling an ethic of involvement, we have in essence developed a community cooperative that delivers Scouting fun and adventure that is frequent, affordable, well-supervised and safe. Let's maintain this tradition of success. We ask that you volunteer; join the committee, or become a merit badge counselor (see Attachments below), or perhaps organize an outing, or go with us on weekend trips. There are dozens of roles for you to choose from and engage in. It is easy, and we will teach you everything you need to know. Help us train young people in citizenship, service and leadership. Through your involvement, instill in young people a lifetime of values, and develop in them the ethical character as expressed in the Scout Oath and Law. |
